What You’ll Learn on our four day Beginners Plastering Course – Our 4-Day Hands-On Breakdown:

The first day starts with a Health & Safety talk, then it’s straight to hands-on tools and getting stuck in!

• Day 1: Ceilings & Dry Lining Foundations
• Learn to apply plasterboard to a full room-height ceiling, including precise measuring, cutting, and fixing.
• DOT & DABBING, complete with an integrated window and reveals.
• Understand wall preparation, apply scrim tape to all joints to prevent cracks, and add angle beads (rough & Smooth) for crisp, straight edges.
• Practice mixing ratios for finishing plaster (skim) and Bonding (Browning), getting to know the perfect texture and consistency for smooth, workable application.
• By the end of Day 1, you’ll have skimmed your first full room-height ceiling.
• Day 2: Solid Foundations & Wall Skimming
• Polish up the ceiling from Day 1 for an even better finish.
• Prepare a breeze block wall for skimming by applying PVA.
• Mix and apply Bonding Coat (all mix ratios provided in your after-course care booklet).
• Finish by “scratching off” the bonding coat and leaving it to dry for later skimming.
• While the bonding dries, you’ll be perfecting your technique by skimming the walls.
• Day 3: Mastering the Skim & Building Independence
• It’s all about Skimming, Skimming, and more Skimming! – taking your skills to a polished standard.
• Tackling tricky wet corners proves challenging, but our tutors are right on hand to help and share their “tricks of the trade” with you. Practice makes perfect.
• You’ll be encouraged to work independently on Day 3, giving you vital practice as if the tutor isn’t there , Even though THEY ARE. You are truly Not Alone. Our Tutors will be right at your side, offering guidance, demonstrations, and answering all your plastering questions, sharing every tip they possibly can.
• (You’ll also get details on where to get good standard tools from and how to purchase materials and set up trade accounts with local building merchants – all inside your comprehensive after-course information pack)
• Day 4: Repairs & Feathering
• Unfortunately, you’ll knock a couple of holes in your perfectly skimmed wall and plaster boarded ceiling.
• You will learn the essential skill of making good – replacing and repairing the holes without needing to replace the entire board.
• Master feathering in the finishing plaster (skim) into existing plaster so that you cannot see or feel where they meet. This crucial technique is also incredibly useful for blending large areas.
• You are never rushed and are always encouraged to stay for an extra skim to perfect your work. (Order of training may vary, you will complete all course content)
